2014 was filled with good cooking, fun times in the kitchen, and once in a while some bloopers that prove no photo is a wasted photo – bloopers want to be remembered too!
Burned things, drippy things, things that taste bad, things that look bad, things that smell funny. Here are few for your enjoyment!
***2014 Bloopers***
Pumpkin snickerdoodles. Proof that more flour does NOT mean a better cookie. Yes, those are cookies, not dinner rolls with brown sugar on them.
^This is what happens when you decide to go to the bathroom and then your oven beeps before you are done in the bathroom.
Honey Seared Salmon. These were so pretty on photos. But alas the sauce was bleh, so it didn’t taste half as good as it looks 🙁 To be fixed for next year!
Ice-cream cookiewich. This was a mess of me hyperventilating and running around my apartment quickly like a crazy woman, because guess what?…ice cream melts! Really fast! Especially after you drizzle hot caramel on it for photos. Here they are in my freezer, attempting to be resuscitated from melting. But melting is sorta permanent.
And few reminders that sometimes cooking goes exactly how you wished! Here the 10 most popular Savoring Spoon posts of 2014!
***2014 Highlights***
Mocha Espresso Cake – made for my Dad’s birthday!
Maple Walnut Cake with Chocolate Ganache – A simple yet delicious layer cake!
Green Tea Caramel Cupcake – Vegan from head to toe and delicious!
Beijing Fried Sauce Noodles – can we collectively nod YES to more noodles? I will be making this again in 2015, and 2016, and on and on and on.
Szechuan String beans – I made this first, but since then the Savoring Spork has really become the master at this dish!
Chinese BBQ Pork Ribs – people really liked these. Me too, I make these after exams to celebrate!
Sticky Soy Sauce Chicken – sticky saucy chicken ready to yum up your dinner!
Homemade Steamed Pork Buns – a dim sum classic.
Chewy Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies – Chewy and delicious!
Pecan Pie ~ internet favorite and a family holiday classic! I love this pie to pieces!
🙂 Here’s to another year of fun in the kitchen!

Ms Sarah!! These are NOT bloopers! These are minor fails compared to the epic disasters I had in my kitchen!! Which is no surprise to me because you are much more poised and elegant than I am 🙂 Oh boy, I will never show my bloopers. Never ever. I made what was supposed to be “Magic Cabbage” yesterday (I even followed a recipe!) and it tasted and SMELT like old garbage. Off meat. And looked revolting. I never take photos, I’m too embarrassed! I do love reading blooper posts though, I can related and it makes me giggle!!
Thanks Nagi! You are too kind! The magic cabbage you made had me giggling – I’ve had those recipe endings too! I’ll have to take more blooper pictures this year, to show my biggest bloopers!
I love that you included a blooper reel, so funny! Your top 10 are all amazing! The Beijing Fried Sauce Noodles really caught my eye- YUM!
Thanks Sonali!

Thanks girl! That cake is one of my favorites too! (caffeine in cake form!)
I absolutely love this post! Love how true and honest you are, I’ve lost count of how many recipes that didn’t taste or photograph well for my blog! 😉 And I know how you feel about the ice-cream melting, not fun in the slightest! However, that mocha expresso cake is stunning! Looking forward to more of your recipes this next year!
Thanks Jess! 🙂
